EV Charging Time Calculator

See how long it takes to charge your electric car on a home Level 2 charger or a DC fast charger, from any start level.

Real fast-charging slows down above ~80%; treat DC results as optimistic beyond that point.

Time = energy added ÷ charger power. A 7.4 kW home charger adds about 25–30 miles per hour; a 150 kW fast charger adds over 150 miles in 30 minutes on most cars.

Charging time questions

How long does a full charge take at home?
On a typical 7–11 kW Level 2 charger, 20%→100% on a 75 kWh pack takes roughly 7–9 hours — overnight charging easily covers it.
Why does fast charging slow down above 80%?
To protect the battery, the car reduces power as it fills. Charging from 10% to 80% is usually as fast as 80% to 100% — on road trips, charge to 80% and move on.
Can I charge overnight with a regular wall outlet?
A standard 120V outlet adds only 3–5 miles per hour. It works for plug-in hybrids, but a dedicated Level 2 charger is the practical choice for a full EV.
