Cost = (battery × charge change) ÷ charging efficiency × rate. At 20%→80% on a 60 kWh pack you buy about 40 kWh from the grid, not 36.

Charging cost questions

How much does it cost to charge an EV at home?
Multiply the energy your car needs by your electricity rate and divide by charging efficiency. Example: 60 kWh battery, 20%→80%, $0.15/kWh, 90% efficiency ≈ (60 × 0.6) ÷ 0.9 × 0.15 ≈ $6.00.
Why is public fast charging so much more expensive?
DC fast chargers charge 3–5× the residential rate because of equipment, demand fees and network operating costs. Fast charging is for road trips; daily charging at home is usually far cheaper.
Should I charge to 100% every night?
Most manufacturers recommend keeping daily charging between 20% and 80% to extend battery life. Charge to 100% before long trips only.
